Mission Trip to Mississippi (5)

January 19

Our last full day. We are now working so well together and we are at the end of our time here. Everyone has figured out what they do best and the small teams are really producing the work. Most of us will return to "our house" tomorrow to put in half a day before we leave for home. The work is not done but the house is much closer to being ready for habitation than it was just 5 days ago when we started. It will be hard to leave and know that we did not have the time to complete the job but we know others will follow and pick up where we have to leave off.

More and more of the same. Finishing the windows, drywalling and mudding, and always cleaning up after ourselves.

Before the drywalling can be done each window needs to be insulated and the opening prepped. Once the drywall was up, then the window was trimmed, ready for the final wall trim which will be put on after the drywall is finished.

What a drywall team! One person has been going around feeling every stud for any nails and removing them. Then the drywall team comes along and cuts and hang the drywall. As soon as a wall is done, the mud team follows and does the taping and mudding.

The ceiling is not a fun place to drywall but it must be done first. Remembering to measure and then cut out all the electical boxes and heat vents is a necessity. I don't think we buried too many!

The spots on the picture are from all the drywall dust that was flying about. We all looked like ghosts when we left today.

All the trim on the outside windows was finished today. Once the house gets painted, it will look real nice!

A finished room! This is the living room and you can see the new drywall on the ceiling and walls. And it already has the first coat of mud on it.

Another drywall team went to the back bedroom and framed in the door to the bathroom and got the rest of that room drywalled. It is amazing what a couple of groups can get done in one day!

And here is the group that worked so hard together all week. All ages, all different abilities but all with the same goal of helping someone get resettled in their home.
