Inside Camp Victor

January 15

Today was our first day of work. Our group of 40+ people started arriving Sunday afternoon with those who had left Saturday morning and spent the night on the road. A few hardy souls left Sunday around noon and drove through the night to arrive between 4:30 and 6:00am. One group had the misfortune to visit a hospital but all was well and they arrived Monday afternoon.

The following pictures show one of the work groups.

This is the house this group will be working on all week. The house is totally gutted. Electricians are doing the wiring while we are trying to do everything else.

We worked both outside and inside. Picking up refuse was a back-bending job but will be real worth it when it comes time to mow the lawn.

Besides picking up the refuse, we raked and raked and raked.

Another fun job outside (it was close to 70 degrees so we were not complaining!) was scraping off the peeling paint. Jay was inside the house and he was also scraping - but he was scraping off the old varnish off floor boards that were being replaced.

And here is the floor that is being replaced! A wall had been removed so three boards have to be inserted. Two are done and tomorrow will see the third.

Another inside job is insulation! Cutting it with dull knives is not fun but they keep at it. As you can tell, there are no windows in this house - that is our job for tomorrow!

And of course there is always cleaning the necessities. We actually had to finish plumbing the toilet before it could be used. And then Sue was kind enough to scrub to get rid of all the dirt and insulation that had fallen onto it.
