Mission Trip to Mississippi (5)
Camp Victor
Camp Victor is the hub of all the volunteerism. This warehouse has been refurbished to house, organize, and feed the hundreds of volunteers that come down each week. It can house 200-250 people. And it is full almost every week! It has several bunk rooms, bathrooms, showers, a huge kitchen, dining room, lounge, food distribution center and the tool room (where all the tools used for working and all the supplies needed for rebuilding are found).

The inside of the building has also been decorated. Below are the walls that the volunteers have signed and then some walls that other artists have painted.

One of the signed walls by volunteers.

And the walls go on and on and on. The messages are poignant and show the hope that the volunteers brought with them.
Some of the painted panels. It sure makes the plywood walls look a whole lot better.

Another one of the panels created for our enjoyment.

A beautiful painting of the boats in the harbor.

A long wall is covered by this huge tree.

This is the dining room. You can see the opening to the kitchen at the far end. Hanging are T-shirts from the different volunteer groups that they have left. Most are signed by all the members.

This is the T-shirt we left and it is hanging in the dining room with all the rest. It is one of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church shirts that were created for one of the earlier trips but since we couldn't find it hanging - we left another with this groups signatures.
And we can't forget the sleeping arrangements. At least now they have mattresses to sleep on. Before when the groups were staying at Christus Victor Lutheran Church all they had were cots.
